The Christmas holidays are the time to feast on pesticide-free fresh blueberries straight from the bush; blueberries are in season from mid December to the end of January. Resident blueberry farmer Jenny Kompara will be there to greet you at 355 Waitui Road and will give you containers to pick your own blueberry feast. The cost is calculated per litre and a 10 litre bucket is supplied for picking, something that two people would normally take just on an hour to fill. This means you can pick as much or as little as you like; blueberries freeze very successfully so you can stock up for all year round eating if you wish! Blueberries are great fruit. There are no thorns on the bushes and the fruit are full of Vitamin C and taste delicious. They are perfect to top a dessert or just eat with ice cream or yoghurt. A blueberry recipe booklet is available with plenty of ideas to use your blueberries. To find us follow the map through Hannam Vale and through Waitui Village. Look out for the sign "BLUEBERRIES HERE" at 355 Waitui Road, or call Jenny on 6556 7620 for directions. You are most welcome to take a picnic to eat after your blueberry collecting expedition as Jenny has plenty of great shady spots, or you might drive five minutes further to the beautiful Waitui Falls and have a swim and a picnic. A brilliant day out! |
