Visitors to Hannam Vale area are in for a treat when they step inside the beautifully appointed craft shop located at Johns River in a corner of the Johns River Hall. Walking into this tiny space is like venturing into another world. The walls are lined with exquisite gifts, all hand made by locals in the Manning / Hastings districts. Owner Jillian Weir has gathered a truly extraordinary collection of gifts and knick-knacks which lend colour and fascination to her shop, open Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 4pm and extra days during the school holidays. Simply called CRAFT, the shop has silk paintings, folk art, leadlight ornaments, glass painting on table weights, bowls, mirror frames and glass ornaments, candle wicking, hand made greeting cards for all occasions, knitted scarfs, beanies, dilly bags, teapot cosies and hand-sewn table runners, place mats and cushion covers. In a corner there are wooden children's toys of every description, the famous hand-made Lansdowne clocks shaped as farmyard barns and sheds, homemade jams, pickles, chutneys and sauces. On the counter is an assortment of hand made jewellery including bracelets, necklaces and ear-rings made from a variety of beads and stones. In another corner are lavender products including lotions, soaps and clothing sachets. Decoupage on an unusually shaped jewellery case catches the eye and orders can be made for waste bins, storage boxes and trays. Leather work including belts, wallets and purses are displayed at the entrance while teddy bears and other stuffed toys line the top shelves. For those looking for relief from aching joints, there are attractive wheat bags which can be heated and applied. Finally if you are seeking a memory of your visit to Hannam Vale and nearby environs CRAFT has a selection of local photographs beautifully framed to remind you of your visit. |
